Palm's Special instructions for installing Treo Voice Dialing from a Mac support document is unnecessarily difficult for Mac users. It requires a memory card (SD or MMC), which is not necessary in order to do the job.
The following was done using a Treo 650 running Palm version 5.4 with the Treo 650 Updater 1.15 update for Cingular installed. It is synced with a Mac running OS X 10.4.2 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Read on for the how-to...

- Download the PRC version of Treo Voice Dialing to your Mac.
- On your Mac, locate your smartphone's Palm software user folder.
- In the user folder, open the Backups folder.
- In the Backups folder, create a new folder called VoiceDial.prc Why did we just do this? There is a known issue between HotSync and the VoiceDial.prc file when it is backed up on a Mac. By creating an empty folder with the same name, HotSync is fooled into thinking the file is backed up in the correct location, without the actual file being transferred and causing trouble with synchronization.
- Drag and drop the PRC file to the "Send to Handheld" droplet on your Mac.
- Perform a HotSync operation to transfer the file to your smartphone.
- On your smartphone, go to the Launcher (home button).
- Tap INSTALL VoiceDial to install Treo Voice Dialing. Wait for the process to complete.
