Simpler installation of Treo VoiceDialing from a Mac Install
Palm's Special instructions for installing Treo Voice Dialing from a Mac support document is unnecessarily difficult for Mac users. It requires a memory card (SD or MMC), which is not necessary in order to do the job.

The following was done using a Treo 650 running Palm version 5.4 with the Treo 650 Updater 1.15 update for Cingular installed. It is synced with a Mac running OS X 10.4.2 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Read on for the how-to...

This is a reordering and slight changing of the above-referenced instructions that does not require use of SD or MMC cards.
  1. Download the PRC version of Treo Voice Dialing to your Mac.
  2. On your Mac, locate your smartphone's Palm software user folder.
  3. In the user folder, open the Backups folder.
  4. In the Backups folder, create a new folder called VoiceDial.prc Why did we just do this? There is a known issue between HotSync and the VoiceDial.prc file when it is backed up on a Mac. By creating an empty folder with the same name, HotSync is fooled into thinking the file is backed up in the correct location, without the actual file being transferred and causing trouble with synchronization.
  5. Drag and drop the PRC file to the "Send to Handheld" droplet on your Mac.
  6. Perform a HotSync operation to transfer the file to your smartphone.
  7. On your smartphone, go to the Launcher (home button).
  8. Tap INSTALL VoiceDial to install Treo Voice Dialing. Wait for the process to complete.
[robg adds: I was able to install Voice Dialing directly without any issues -- but that's probably because I use The Missing Sync, not Palm Desktop, to sync my Treo to my Mac.]

Or you can just send the file over bluetooth and avoid the unnecessary Hotsync.

Apple has an Automator action that you can download that lets you create workflows with Bluetooth. I have a plugin created where I can select a file(s) and use the contextual menu to send it to my Treo.
