Scroll slowly with new PowerBooks' scrolling trackpad System
On the latest PowerBooks, you can scroll by moving two fingers on the trackpad.
I discovered yesterday while browsing around in the Finder that if you keep one finger still while moving the other, whatever you are scrolling will scroll very slowly. It is really handy if the text you are trying to read is small, for example.

Only the Finder?

I tested this with both the Finder and Firefox. It appears to work in the Finder, but not Firefox. I get the same scrolling speed in Firefox no matter whether I have one finger or both moving.

I would guess it works only with Cocoa based applications. FireFox is a Carbon application.

But isn't the Finder Carbon as well?

I suspect that this isn't really a special feature, but rather simply the result that the movement is based on the midpoint between your two fingers, so by keeping one still you're cutting down the movement by half.

Doesn't appear to work for me. Scrolling with two fingers, or scrolling with one finger stationary, produces the same result. My PB scrolls just as fast or slow using this hint as it does the normal way.

And neing the lazy guy I am, I've been doing the one finger stationary method for a long time. You can even rest a finger or thumb from your other hand on the trackpad and just use one finger to scroll freely. ;)

Yep, I agree. Same behavior here using iScroll2. ;)

Cheers

I actually posted this hint to Rob a few years back.
