Remove warning from MS Messenger conversations Apps
In Microsoft Messenger 5.0 (and previous versions), there's a message at the top of each conversation window you open that warns you not to reveal personal information such as credit card or banking information in your conversation. That warning is appropriate, but let's face it, after your 20th conversation window, if that message hasn't sunk in, it probably won't. Microsoft also provides no way to turn the message off.

To remove (or change) that message, do this:
  1. Back up Microsoft Messenger, and quit the app if it's running.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) Microsoft Messenger and select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
  3. Navigate into Contents -> Resources -> English.lproj folder (or the folder for whatever localization you use).
  4. Edit the file named InstantMessageWindow.strings, and replace the contents for the string named IMWarning (it should be at the bottom of the file) with the text you want, or ""; for no message at all.
  5. Save InstantMessageWindow.strings.
  6. Restart Microsoft Messenger.
New conversations you open will now display your message (or no message) at the top of the window.

modify more than just that

Hi all...

actually by playing around in those resources or whatever it is called...
you can change a lot more.
for example my current messenger application does not show any sign of microsoft anymore...you can just edit all the logos in whatever program you like to use.
also the little video shown during login can be changed...

i guess once you mess up things you just throw it all away and download the program again.

I find it quite nice to have a chat window without this horrible msn logo on it!

cheers
sjch

I suggest a better message like: "Because you are using Mac OS X you don't need to be worried about security problems, viruses, trojans and other infections like ms messenger running in a Windows pc" ;)

Excuse my bad English, Spanish is my first language.

Unfortunately, as Mac users, we're still vulnerable to identity theft via "Hello, this is Kurt at Microsoft Network Systems, and we believe this account has been stolen. Please give us your credit card information to verify, or the account will be deactivated."

Though I think your line would be good for file transfer warnings.

A Better idea - remove MS messanger

Even if your friends are not using iChat, AOL or Jabber, you can just install GAIM and talk to people on both MSN and Yahoo networks without any banners or loss of functionality. If native clients actually supported audio and video, it would be a different story.
