Import .csv and other text files to iCal Apps
I have never been able to find an application to take calendar files exported as .csv from Outlook and import them into iCal. Similarly, I haven't found anything that handles moving tab-delimited data from Excel into iCal. If such programs does exist and I've failed to find them, then I've given myself work for no reason -- so please let me down gently!

I've written a primitive AppleScript called iCalTextImport to fill this gap. The script works for me, and may be of some use to others. It uses the Satimage osax and Prog_Bar 0.2, both of which are freeware and which are included in the package (acknowledgement is given in the ReadMe). Feedback welcome!

[robg adds: I tried to add a link for Prog_Bar, which is from Spork Software, but their website seems to have vanished and the program hasn't been updated in about a year. I haven't tested this script...]

There was a bug in the original file which relied on an old osax. Update now posted - apologies.

Thanks to those who have given feedback - glad the program seems to be of some help. Version 1.3 now available - some bugs fixed and an attempt made to allow import of tasks as well as events.

One can download ProgBar from the developer's personal site:

This uses a different approach to showing import porgress, and deals better with AM and PM times. "Tasks" import (very beta!) now possible

Version 1.6 available

A number of enhancements and one or two bugfixes. I don't envisage much further work on this unless significant bugs emerge, or anyone has any suggestions for enhancements!

Thanks again to those who have been in touch.

Version1.5 is latest? Not 1.7?
Authored by: bwiemers on Oct 05, '05 07:49:27PM

I downloaded 1.7. Is 1.5 really the latest version as the download site says?
No matter. 1.7 worked well for me. Fast and flawless. It saved me hours. I create a yearly production schedule in Excel and (used to) hand key the 480 dates into iCal. Your script saved me hours!
Cheers!

Apologies - version 1.7 was the latest version, now superseded by 1.8

PLEASE NOTE: The recent version 2.0beta seems somehow to have acquired the older version of Satimage (3.0.6). Since it's compiled as a UB, it needs version (3.1.2) which is now included in the download. If you had difficulty getting version 2.0 to run, please replace your version of satimage.osax with the later one. Many apologies!

Mike

Sorry that version 2.2 ran into lots of difficulties! 2.2.3 is now on the site, and seems to be fine. Please let me know if it isn't!
