Adobe Camera Raw and missing disk space Apps
On a recent hunt through my hard drive in search of missing disk space, I discovered an unlikely suspect: Adobe Camera Raw. My Library -> Caches -> Adobe Camera Raw folder had swollen to over 729 items, resulting in a total of 2.8gb of lost space.

Anybody else shooting in raw and using Photoshop CS2 to process their images might want to take a close look at their cache file as well. I would have suspected a cache entry to be deleted once the image had been processed (who processes the same raw image twice?), but I would have suspected wrongly. I simply deleted mine with no adverse effects.

well, you can choose your own folder to place those files and you can also limit it's size.

Who processes the same raw image twice?

Mmm, Astronomers?

Actually, anyone who really NEEDS to be using the raw data, and is actually using it, potentially is going to be processing the same raw image twice. Sure, I know many will just tweak their own custom profile as a default (as opposed to a non raw version as determined by the cameras electronics), but the idea is to pump more info from raw data. Need more shadow detail? It is there.

But I suppose you are saying, even if you save the raw data, there is still some in the cache that needs to be cleared. And I am speaking from theory, not experience. But theoretically, some people could be using (not using) RAW data, just because it makes them feel fancy, not that they actually need it, or need variations on it, in their work flow.

Affects PS CS1 and CS2, not PS 7

As far as I know, the caching of ACR import settings affects both Photoshop CS1 and CS2.

I have Photoshop 7 and the Adobe Camera Raw plugin purchased separately, and it does not cache the image import settings.

Wait...you're able to open Raw images in PS7? How? I was under the impression that the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in is only available for CS2 (3.1 for CS).

I have a Digital Rebel, myself, and I have been dying to be able to open the raw images in PS7.

Photoshop has been guilty of behavior like this for a while now. Old version used to be bad about filling up the hidden temporary files directory.
