10.4: A fix for a 'SuperDrive not supported' error System 10.4
Tiger only hintWhile trying to burn my first DVD-R with a new SuperDrive, I got following error message:
The disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported. (Error code 0×80020025)
The SuperDrive is OK, as is the DVD-R. The solution to this problem was to reset PRAM during a boot -- hold down Command-Option-P-R during restart, and wait for the machine to restart again.

After that, all was fine.

[robg adds: I've seen this error a couple of times myself since upgrading to 10.4. For me, a simple restart got the drive back. I haven't seen the problem recur under 10.4.2, so perhaps it's been squashed...]

I got the same thing about a month or two ago; I was going to submit it to XLR8yourmac to see if anyone else had seen it, but upon rebooting the problem went away.

It has since happened two other times more recently, but I can find no corellation between the incidents. I'm on a Quicksilver 733 with the stock Combo Drive.

Weird.

Interesting... I'm seeing this error on a Quicksilver G4/733 (upgraded to a dual 1.6 PowerLogix 7447A), with Pioneer's new DVR-110D drive from OWC. I'm on 10.3.9, so I'm thinking I'll upgrade to Tiger and try again.. gonna search around for a little more info, first, just in case that's not necessary.

I'm sorry but zapping the pram in this instance isn't going to do anything, its just a coincidence (probably because you are restarting the machine).

As far as I can tell it was a bug in the Finder and was fixed in 10.4.2.

I had his problem occur immediately upon getting my new PB. PRAM resets didn't help. I went through all the troubeshooting steps with Apple tech and ended up sending the machine in for a new optical drive. They got it back to me in 18 hours, working perfectly.

I had this happen a few times and I Force Quit the Finder and let it restart. Everything worked fine after that so no need to restart the whole machine :-)

Well, it wasn't fixed on my machine (10.4.4)
I still got the same error message. Quicksilver 933.

I wonder if it has something to do with the "maximum speed" of the media (my burner can't handle 4x, 8x or 16x DVD-R)

...but still, I can easily burn any CD... No PRAM or Restart did it for me...
