Remove songs from iTunes library through a playlist

When listening to a specific playlist and discovering that we want to delete a particular song from our actual library (not just the playlist), we always found it a pain to do so. First, we'd have to switch back to the library and then search for the song that we were just listening to in the playlist ... just to delete it.

It turns out we didn't have to do this -- iTunes has a keyboard shortcut that lets you delete any song from your library, even if you're inside another playlist. Just hold down the Option key while you hit the Delete key (Option-Delete) for any song in any playlist. When you do so, iTunes will delete the song from your entire library.

[robg adds: I thought we had documented this once here already, but I can't find it in a search, so apologies if it's a duplicate...]
