Tiger only hintYou can use the system menubar widgets (AirPort, Internet Connect, Volume, etc.) while Dashboard is active. Just give them a long click-and-hold, then move to the menu area and release the mouse button. You can then turn on AirPort, dial to internet, change iChat status, etc., all without leaving Dashboard environment.

[robg adds: This also works for some, but not all, third-party menubar items. I couldn't get Butler or Salling Clicker to activate, for instance, but the MenuMeters drop-downs work. You can also interact with applications while Dashboard is active, if you so desire.]
