I don't know if this is really a hint, but it is somewhat useful, and hopefully will be implemented throughout the system soon.
Use Command-Space to run a search, but don't display the "Show All Results" window; just leave them in the Spotlight window at top right. If you now take a "window only" screenshot of the resulting Spotlight menu (hold down Command-Shift-4, hit the space bar, then click the camera icon on the Spotlight window), the resulting PNG (I'm not sure if this works with TIFF or PDF yet; I just saw the hint to change the format) will include the translucency of the menu, as well as the drop shadow at the bottom.
This only works for this Spotlight menu, no others. It would be nice to see Apple do this with more of the screen elements.
