A simple fix for Windows Media Player 'skin' crashes

I decided to try out the Mini (Audio only) Windows Media Player skin (View -> Select Skin -> Mini (Audio Only)). After making the switch, the application would crash half the time I switched from a working skin. I got it to work once and quit the application. Since then, though, every time I loaded the application, it would crash before starting. Deleting and reinstalling the app didn't fix the problem. Microsoft lists some external causes for crashes in this FAQ entry, but none fixed my problme.

I finally found that the solution was simply to delete my preferences file. It's located in your user's Library -> Preferences folder, and named Windows Media Player Prefs.

[robg adds: Deleting an application's prefs is one of the first things to try in the troubleshooting world. Personally, though, I move them out of the folder first -- if that doesn't fix the problem, at least you haven't lost all your settings for no good reason.]
