For an example, subscribe to the "Tiki Bar TV" podcast in the store. The downloaded file will have the video camera icon next to it in the iTunes browser. It plays just like a music video in the iTMS.

iTunes 4.9 includes support for video podcasts, simply by having the RSS feed point to a .mov rather than an .mp3.

It's actually called VODcasting (VOD=Video On Demand). A Dutch guy (what is it with the Dutch, first Curry, now VanderZiel) demoed VOD streams in iTunes RSS last week, and it's already going mainstream. Yesterday Public Broadcaster VPRO announced their VODcast feed. It's all on www.vodcast.nl

funny, from the community I came from, it's called videoblogs, or vlogs. whatever. Anyway, check rocketboom (on itunes podcast directory), a must have.
A good creation tutorial can be seen at freevlog.org and I discussed itunes vlog capabilities at my blog. If anyone wanna try it... it's nice to watch TV outside mainstream media.

you have to change your itunes preferences... the default is to show the video in the album art area (lame), but you can change it to separate window, or fullscreen (that's not that good as it seems, because you lose the timebar).

too bad, nedscott, but there /was/ a videoblogging community before itunes 4.9... and even if the term podcast, or video podcast will in the end wins over, it's still important to people to know what to refer to, when they google to new shows.

but what about all the other shows that already exist that don't have the word pod attached to them? ooooh, didn't think about that one, did ya.

Which brings the question of when ipod will start doing video playback. With PSP and cell phones starting to do mobile video there should be no technical reason why Apple couldn't build a video ipod.

Apple most certainly can, even the third generation iPod has been hacked and now has the ability to play black & white videos specially encoded in AVI format, no sound as of yet though.
Anyone with a third-generation or older ipod should definitely try it out, a simple installer is here: http://ipodlinuxinstl.sourceforge.net/download.html
