10.4: A workaround for Ricoh digital cameras in 10.4 System 10.4
Tiger only hintUsers of Ricoh digital cameras, in particular the ones that make use of the Caplio Mounter program to connect to OS X, may have noticed that Caplio Mounter is not compatible with Tiger. The Ricoh driver page indicates that they are working on an update for 10.4, but until then to use 10.3 or earlier or use a USB card reader.

All is not lost however. While playing around with my camera (an R1V), I discovered that if I connect up the camera to my Mac and activate its Direct Print function, iPhoto launches and you can import your photos. iPhoto won't let you delete the photos from the camera after importing, but that can be done manually afterwards. So if you're like me, and have been checking Ricoh's site on a daily basis, there is a workaround. It's not perfect, but hey, it's better than not getting your photos.

To get rid of the annoying error message generated by the Caplio Mounter program, just delete it from your system (you may need to use Activity Monitor to stop the CaplioStarter process first).

This has been tested on a Ricoh Caplio R1V, but it also worked on a mate's Ricoh camera (don't know the exact model) and so may work with other Ricoh models.
