10.4: A caution on support for iPhoto2 in 10.4

Tiger only hintThis is more of a warning than a tip. Remember when iPhoto was freely downloadable? That was iPhoto 1 and 2. Running iPhoto 2 under Tiger writes the following warning to /private/var/log/system.log:

Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto: The function CGSDictionarySetObjectForKey is obsolete and will be removed in a Tiger update. Unfortunately, this app, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
The message is repeated for five other functions in iPhoto 2.

Despite its coolness factor, I'll probably never use GarageBand or even iMovie; this TiBook 800 doesn't have a DVD burner; and iTunes generates revenue, so it's still freely downloadable. That leaves paying for iLife just to keep iPhoto working, and that's not going to happen. Nice excuse for a new box, I know, but I just got my wife a new AlBook, so that's out as well. Bummer.
