10.4: Color management for picture files via ColorSync Apps
Tiger only hintIn OS X 10.4 Tiger you can open image files directly in ColorSync, and then add, change, and embed ICC profiles in the images and save the changed images.

Open ColorSync, go to File -> Open and open TIFs, JPGs, PDFs, and maybe even more. Observe the Drop Down Menu at the bottom of the image window, and I think the rest is self explanatory. With Automator, you could even batch changes to many images at once.

I can assign a new profile to a JPEG file and save it but it crashes ColorSync Utility every time. Saving the JPEG appears to be a lossless operation that does not involve resaving the image portion of the file.

I don't see a way to directly use Colorsync Utility in Automator. However it is scriptable in AppleScript.

There is potential here to solve the profile related color shifting problems in iPhoto. A drag and drop AppleScript that assigns the proper profile might fix the color shift.

I discovered that Tiger's Preview.app has these features too under its Tools menu. It also has the image correction dialog that ColorSync does.

RGB Camera profiles that I add either at the global and local libraries do not appear in the list. Preview will list them in the menu Tools > Assign Profile…, but its Automator action will again only list those that ColorSync Utility does.

Does anyone know how to assign custom color profiles with this or other related method?
