Use drag and drop to ease iCal event creation Apps
Not sure if this is 10.4 only or not, but iCal seems to have good drag/drop support, namely:
  1. Drag text into iCal and a new event is created with that text as the title.
  2. Ditto with a URL, but the URL of the event is also set.
  3. Drag an event out of iCal to a text field, and a formatted description of the event is dropped.
There are possibly others ... and there's nice UI feedback during the drag/drop, too.

[robg adds: I tried dragging a text clipping onto iCal's dock icon, but that didn't work. You need to drag directly onto a day within the calendar. If someone can test in a pre-10.4 system, please let us know if it works.]

iCal drag & drop in Panther

In Panther I can only drag text, URLs or Finder text clips into existing event fields that accept text. The URL field accepts URLs as well.

On 10.3.9, I could drag text to individual event fields, but not onto a calendar day, nor could I drag an event anywhere out of the calendar.

On a somewhat related note...

This is documented in iCal's help so it's technically not a real hint, but I asked Apple for it years ago and finally, when you option-drag an event from one day to another, it produces a copy of that event rather than just moving it. Much more convenient than copy and paste!

Also, in my online-banking application, if I option-drag a balance from one account to another, it copies the money rather than just moving it.

Cool!

I just found that you can also just select the event in iCal, hit Command-C, go to the text field you want to paste it into, and hit Command-V. The same information is put in the text field, formatted and everything.
