10.4: Use Spotlight for offline Mapquest directions System 10.4
Tiger only hintFirst of all, this is not an earth-shaking hint, more like a hintlette ;-)...

I use Mapquest to get driving directions. Once I look up directions in Safari, I save them as a web archive using File -> Save As; the default is Web Archive, which is fine. Then I move the saved archive to a folder in my home directory -- ~/Documents/directions.

From that time on, I can access them via Spotlight by typing Control-Space to bring up the Spotlight query, and then typing where I want to go -- Control-space Micro Center, for instance. So you're probably asking "why not just surf to Mapquest and pull up the stored direction search from there?" Because Spotlight is faster than the internet, and this way, I don't need to have an internet connection to get the directions. Try it.

With Automator you can create a workflow to download the map directly to your directions folder also.

Have you tried Google Maps recently? It's been working beautifully for me with Safari for at least a month now. Mac OS 10.4.1 Safari 2.0 (412)
