You can delete links or edit them from the bookmarks bar of Safari by holding the control key down in Tiger when clicking on them. This will bring up a contextual menu to allow you to do things that are faster than going through the bookmarks menu and selecting "Show All Bookmarks...".
[robg adds: I believe the control-click on a bookmark bar entry feature has been in Safari for quite a long time, though I don't know which versions offer which options in the menu. A quick search on hints didn't find any reference to the contextual menu for bookmark bar entries, so I thought it at least worth documenting (it is a somewhat hidden feature). I don't think, though, that it's Tiger-only (though the Delete option may be).]
