After upgrading to Tiger, I had a lot of trouble with .Mac syncing of calendar files. While it worked quite well on Panther, on Tiger my iCal tried to import the new data (it noticed that I reset the data on .Mac) and never stopped doing this. To be clear: It doesn't crash, it just imported the data infinitely.
The reason for this problem was an "&" in the name of the calendar! Unfortunately, the problem can't be resolved just by renaming the calender! It has to be exported as iCal, removed, and reimported as new calender. The following strategy helped to find the problem:
- Export all calendars as iCal files (not using the new database backup function!).
- Remove all calendars until one is left and remove all entries in it.
- Reset the .Mac sync system with this calendar and replace all connected computers with it.
- Import the calenders (one by one) and sync after each import.
- Sync on at least one other system to check whether the sync mechanism works. If it works, restart with importing of the next calendar. Otherwise the problematic calendar is found!
