10.4: Sync the Motorola V330 via Bluetooth System 10.4
Tiger only hintT-Mobile just started selling the Motorola V330, and I decided to change out my 3650 for it. It turns out the V330 is a V551 in disguise, so a little copying and pasting got iSync to see it just fine. This is on Mac OS X 10.4, so your mileage may vary.

Edit /Applications -> iSync.app [Control-click and pick Show Package Contents] -> Contents -> PlugIns -> ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice -> Contents -> PlugIns -> PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin -> Contents -> Resources -> MetaClasses.plist.

Once in the file, add this text, preferably below the V300 section. After editing, iSynch synced up my Address Book and iCal just fine! I was impressed.

i have a v600 and have tried just pairing it with my 533mhz g4 tower and each time it gets to the point of 'gathering additional information about your phone' and then it kernel panics, each and every time. would any of these 'hints' to get these moto v* phones working with bluetooth correct this problem or should i just give up? makes me want my sony ericson phone back, even with all the dust and crap that would get inside the screen.

I don't think anything there would help -- older Moto phones had some serious bluetooth issues. Perhaps a firmware upgrade from Motorola would help?

Worked like a charm... couldn't have been easier. I just pasted it near the end of the file before the last <dict> tag. As I'm not a coder and have only limited knowledge of how the tags work. But it worked... and I'm couldn't be happier right now....

Thanks,

Greg

Just curious, so happy about this working for isync, any thoughts on how to enable it in Address book? Just realized that address book won't recognize my phone still. Not crucial, but sure would be a nice feature.

I did some looking, and I think I found the plist file that would need to be configured. Unfortunately, I do not know the commands for the Motorola to allow the functionality.

file location:
/Applications/Addressbook -> Contents/Resources/Telephony.bundle -> Contents/Resources/ABDeviceCOmmandSets.plist

Hope that helps some.....

Im having the same problem. I can see video, mp3, and photo from the bluetooth interface. My powerbook wont see the phone as a phone, it see's it as 'any bluetooth device' and isync wont see it at all. I've tried all of the .plist text fixes. Any other suggestions?

Is there a way to transfer images taken with the V330's camera to a Macintosh via BlueTooth or wire?

Bluetooth File Exchange will let you browse the device, so you can drag photos out very easily.

You can also use Bluetooth File Exchange to add MIDI (polyphonic) and MP3 ring tones to the V330 (and many other Bluetooth handsets). Copy them to the "audio" directory.

Does anybody know how to have iSync assign multiple phone numbers per addressbook entry in V330? Right now it created duplicate names - one for each phone number.

I just got my v330 yesterday.

It does know that all the entries from one person belong to the same person. By default, the phone displays each number separately in the phone book list. You can change that, though:

From the phone book, go menu > Setup > View: Primary Contacts.

My big complaint is that the category for contacts on the phone seems to get reset to the default whenever I sync with the computer, if there are changes to that contact. Anyone know a way around that?

The new Motorola v557 is basically the same -- a slightly-tweaked v551. Anyone know the right strings to use to get this one included? Or, more generally, anyone know how to probe the phone for these strings?

Just got a V557 as well. Very dissapointed that it doesn't work out of the box. Any tips would be appreciated.
