I don't use Dictionary.app often, opting instead to use the Dashboard widget, which doesn't include the images.

Cool - you can also click the image where it will open in a separate window and you can enlarge it by simply resizing the window.

The images are nicely scalable in Dictionary, but if you drag them out they get rasterized to PNG :-(

FYI, they are stored natively as PNGs. See /Library/Dictionaries/New Oxford American Dictionary.dict/Contents/Images

Indeed they are. Doesn't explain, though, why that map of Europe scales up really smoothly in Dictionary but not in Preview.

Eh? They scale nicely even after dragging them to the Desktop as .pngs as well. At least they do on my PowerBook.

I just noticed that on the map of the US, they misspelled Pittsburgh -- they leave off the "h"...
