10.4: Change the Launch icon in Quicksilver b40 Apps
Tiger only hintWhen I downloaded the latest version of Quicksilver for Tiger, I was immediately annoyed by the Rocket icon that appears now for launching an application. After the hint on extracting graphics from applications using iPhoto, I decided to find that graphic and see if it could be changed or removed.

The easy fix is to go into the folder that contains Rocket.png, and either replace it with a PNG of your choosing or remove the PNG file which forces Quicksilver to use the default gear icon. The Rocket.png file is located in the Quicksilver.app bundle (Control-click on it and choose Show Package Contents), then choose Contents -> Plugins -> Core -> Support.qsplugin -> Contents -> Resources.

I also noticed that there are a number of plist files that make reference to the Rocket.png file. I decided against modifying those files, but it would appear that you can choose a different icon for different instances (ie. Launch, Open, etc.).

You should also be able to put the replacement in ~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/Resources/

Thanks for the hint, appreciated.

I didn't like the icon either, so I just zipped it in it's folder and I'm enjoying the 'wheel'-icon we used to have again.

Nifty Finder Labeling!
Authored by: zane on Jun 02, '05 10:23:48AM
Going off-topic here, but has anyone ever noticed the nifty Finder labeling on this app? Have a close look, it is somehow written in "small caps" (ie: all-caps, with a larger-point first character) with the app's version suffix "subscripted". This screenshot may help to illustrate this clever trickery.

In all my years of Mac usage, I not sure I've ever seen this technique before and I certainly have no idea how it is achieved! (although I'm sure the answer is simple!) ;)

Oh yeh, a side effect of this unconventional naming style excludes this app from correctly spelt Spotlight searches.
