10.4: Fix iSync support for Motorola V220 Apps
Tiger only hintEver since I upgraded to Tiger, my Motorola V220 stopped working with iSync.

After waiting for 10.4.1 and still no fix, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
  1. Open Applications: iSync.app: Contents: PlugIns: ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice: Contents: PlugIns: PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin: Contents: Resources: MetaClasses.plist with your favorite text editor.
  2. Change the V220 Identification section to look like this.
  3. Open iSync, plug in your phone with a USB cable, and choose Add devices from the Devices menu.
After doing this, your V220 should show up.

I added the following string to get my v220 to work with iSync on 10.4.1:
<string>"Motorola CE, Copyright 2000"+"GSM900","GSM1900","GSM850","MODEL=V220ENS"</string>

I was excited to see this, + wondering why it doesn't work to recognize my v220.
I tried it 3 ways, the original hint, the above suggestion of the string with "ENS" as a third string in both arrays, then as the only added second string (again in both arrays).

My guess to what might be the issue, is I read somewhere that the firmware Cingular puts on their phones is different than the factory default. Mine is from Cingular. It would be informative to hear if for those that can get iSync recognition are from a service other than Cingular.

I've got it working with a V220 from Cingular. I put in only the ENS string (removed the original two), then quit and restarted iSync. It recognized my phone and seems to have synced smoothly.

Thanks for the hint.. I had all but given up, and was resorting to booting into 10.3 just so I could sync my phone.

Mine works after all with the original edit, I had failed to add the array tag since it was a second string.

This shows the top of the V220 section which encludes all that is edited. Notice because you're adding two second strings where previously there was only one, they now need to be both enclosed in array tags. As reported by others, if your model requires the "ENS" (not sure how you identify that), then all 4 strings end with "V220ENS" instead of "V220".

I've tried all permutations of the instructions here and I still can't get my phone to be recognized by iSync. I'm going to post the MetaClasses.plist file entry that I have and what System Profiler tells me. If somebody could see what is going wrong, I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Ryan

From an anonymous hint submission...
Authored by: robg on Jun 23, '05 09:22:28AM
Anonymous submitted this as a hint, but it clearly belongs here. So here it is:
I tried everything suggested in the thread "Fix iSync support for Motorola V220". However, I found this finally worked for me.

1) Open the MetaClasses.plist in iSync.app -> Contents -> PlugIns -> ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice -> Contents -> PlugIns -> PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin -> Contents -> Resources

2) Copy the key and dict section for the Motorola V180 and replace the section for the Motorola V220

3) Find and replace all "V180" strings with "V220" in the section you just pasted.

4) Launch iSync

This will probably get overwritten with any 10.4.x updates...

Sync V220 in Tiger - Pictures?
Authored by: rgda on Jul 03, '05 04:34:40PM

This really worked for me. Thanks! I was afraid there was a conflict with MissingSync (used to sync my Sony Clie).

I wonder if there is a way of getting the pictures I took with the v220 to load in iPhoto (or maybe if there's any way to get the picture files out of the phone without using my company's scam). Thanks!

I'm trying to get my v180 to sync after upgrading to 2.01 and having no luck. I did implement a variation of the fix recommended for 1.5 and this worked in the past. But now the new version has no strings that look even remotely like the old metaclasses.plist file. any ideas or other experiences?

I have had problems with 10.4.6 and iSync 2.2. A solution is to copy all the info from the V226 and just change the 226 to 220.
