Hide just the Sidebar via the keyboard Desktop
I don't know if this has been addressed, but I noticed that you can hide/show the Sidebar in a Finder window with this key combination:

Control-Option-Command-T

[robg adds: The Finder's View menu shows Command-Option-T, which hides the Toolbar and the Sidebar, but I can't find any mention of this method of hiding just the Sidebar. I also don't know if it works on 10.3 -- if someone can test it, please comment. For now, I have not marked it Tiger-only...]

It works under 10.3.9, but more slower than menu drag when re-showing the sidebar.

Double clicking the part where you would drag hides the sidebar as well.
(OS 10.3.9)

Actually, double clicking on a split pane divider maximizes the main area of the split pane for in all split panes.

Cool. Sorta difficult shortcut, tho. Since this command is not a menu selection, it probably can't be remapped with a keyboard shortcut tool (ie Menu Master) or the System Prefs Keyboard Shortcuts (I checked that one - need a selectable menu item). I would like to swap Hide/Show Sidebar with Hide/Show Toolbar shortcuts, since I never hide the toolbar.

The ctrl+option+command-T doesn't really 'hide' it. More accurately, it minimizes the sidebar area. If you notice, on the left edge of the window, there is a dimple. You can drag it to show the sidebar again.

Note that Command-Option-T, or the oval widget at the top right, rather than simply "hiding" the toolbar, is switching the window type from metal to aqua.
