A script to refresh daily audio feeds in iTunes Apps
I was annoyed that the streaming MP3 URL for Democracy Now (hosted on archive.org) includes the date of the show, which makes it impossible to have a static link in iTunes for the most recent program. Without having to visit the site each morning to get the current program's URL, I wanted a way to automate the process so I would only have to click on an unchanging track name in iTunes to hear the show of the day. So I wrote this AppleScript, which, of course, could be modified for other programs and URLs.

I use Cronnix to run this script each weekday morning. The script checks for a URL track in iTunes ending with "Democracy Now Stream," and replaces it with another track named "2005-0506 Democracy Now Stream" (for example), so I only see one stream and I know that it's been updated.

[robg adds: If you listen to anything that has daily updates and ever-changing URLs, this script should offer some ideas for making them into static URLs for use in iTunes...]

A script to refresh daily audio feeds in iTunes
Authored by: LaRoche02 on May 17, '05 02:07:18PM

Useful script, exactly the program I want to use it for. However, I can't get the script to compile in Tiger Script Editor 2.1. I get the error "Expected expression but found unknown token". I think the problem is with the "%''s in the following line.
do shell script "date "+%Y-%m%d""

I copied and pasted the code directly with no modifications. I'm not that handy with Applescript. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, LaRoche

to use a " in a string you have to use \"
do shell script "date \"+%Y-%m%d\""

Do you think at 900 char system call is a problem? I love embedding applescripts in c++ :)

Thanks for pointing this out. The backslashes were in the script I submitted but they got lost along the way somehow.
