10.4: Show date/time (and more) in the login window System 10.4
Tiger only hintI don't know if this worked in Panther or not, but if you click on the System Name (grey text just above the username/password form) on the Login Window, you can see different information, such as the installed OS version, the machine's serial number, and the current (updated) date and time:

Not the most useful thing in the world, but I've thought about trying to hack something to show the current date in that spot before. Looks like Apple beat me to it!

[robg adds: The above screenshot is from my machine. Unfortunately, the "click state" of the row defaults the next time you login, so you can't leave it on the date/time view...]

Heh,

Saw this before too, wasn't sure if it was new or not.
Nice feature.

The interesting thing with Tiger, are all the undocumented features, as ever, that keeps popping up, and probably will, until...

I am still waiting for a display count of my new email messages, both in the login window and the fast user switching menu.

I don't want other users to know how many email messages I've got waiting.

If Tiger does get that feature, it should at least be disableable.

Now all the sysadmins are out there trying to figure out a way to disable this feature so their kiosks can't be researched for exploits. :P Come on, it shows the build number?? The serial number?? Is that necessary?? It's nice to have the info available, but this should definitely be a customizable feature. And I agree about the Mail count thing, that would be a sweet option.

I would guess someone added that so when you are on the phone to AppleCare with a "I can't log in" problem they can still get some basic system info. I assume it would help the IT line at big companies as well.

Damn Rob what are you up at 6.30 taking screen shots for? ;-)

Guess this isn't my best contribution to the comments, but I despise early birds...

Odd.

Doesn't show the date and time for me. Only version, build and serial number.

Just adding the word loginwindow in this discussion so that people looking for the ip address at the loginwindow will find this hint (I couldn't find it previously)
