10.4: View .ics calendar attachments in Mail.app

Tiger only hintI'm not sure if this is the default or I've done something strange with my Mail setup on Tiger (already).

Panther gave us the ability to view meeting invites as ics files - which made adding the events to iCal a piece of cake. In Tiger, though, I found it parsed out the rest of the email message as text, and gave no indication there was an ics attachment - although it is there, if you view the message source. After much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth, I came across the Previous Alternative, Next Alternative, Plain Test Alternative and Best Alternative menu items, in the Message submenu of the View menu.

Obviously, the default is Best Alternative, but if you change to the previous one (a simple Apple-[), it now shows the ics file. Crisis Over.

It seems that, while Mail remembers this setting on an individual email basis, it will continue to show new emails with the 'Best Alternative' view - perhaps this can be changed in a plist file somewhere...
