Pairing a Navman 44xx GPS unit with OS X Network
If you own a Navman 4400-series Bluetooth GPS unit (such as the 4460 or 4470 for Palm OS 5), did you know you can also use it with your Mac? To set up a Bluetooth device, you first need to pair it with your Mac. However, Mac OS X only accepts numeric passkeys, and the default passkey for the Navman is alphanumeric: "NAVMAN." Bluetooth Setup Assistant (in Applications: Utilities) will let you go no further...

The solution involves using Bluetooth Serial Utility (also in Applications: Utilities) to create an outgoing RS-232 port. Once this is done, you can use your Navman unit with GPS-aware Mac applications like Route 66 and GPSUtility. More details, plus a pictorial walkthrough, can be found right here.
