I have been trying to print to a HP PSC-750 connected to a Linux box running CUPS. I have tried for so long and have had no good results. Unfortunately, the hard drive has gone out on this machine, and I need a printer to print to from my PowerBook. I don't want to have to hook the PowerBook up to the PSC-750 -- as the printer is on a desk in a room where I don't usually have the PowerBook. To make a long story short ... I had purchased the D-Link DP-300U print server some time ago and never used it, so I decide to give it a shot. To my suprise, it is extremely easy to print to:
- Attach the PSC-750 to the print server using USB
- Using the web administration interface, set up the DP-300U so that it would function on my network -- gave it an IP, etc...
- Open the DP-300U's web administration interface, went to the "Configuration" tab, then took note of the "USB: Port Name" field.
- Open /Applications: Printer Setup Utility, and choose "Rendezvous" and you'll see the USB port in the list by the name that you saw in the setup of the DP-300U!
