Here's a simple one, but not necessarily obvious.
If you're accessing a PC using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client (or probably via VNC as well), then pressing the "Clear" key (above the "7" key) turns on / off num lock on a PC -- and you'll have to do this if you want to use the numeric keypad.
