I found out that you can start and stop a movie in QuickTime Player by clicking on the movie picture. A single-click will stop a playing movie, while a double-click will play/continue.

Tab key switches players
A feature I didn't know about was that the Tab key cycles between play windows in Quicktime Player. Shift-Tab cycles backwards. A bit simpler than Command-Tilde I suppose. |
