Watch for a Microsoft Word auto-complete date error

Microsoft seems to have not fixed in Word 2004 an irritating bug that surfaced in v.X, namely, that when it auto-completes the date for you, it uses the date when you launched Word (instead of that day's date). This is a problem if you don't quit Word, sleep your computer, then wake your computer the next day and start typing. In that situation, Word will auto-complete with yesterday's date.

For example, if today is the 5th, and you type "February," Word will try to plug in "5, 2005." If you launched Word on the 3rd though, it will try to plug in "3, 2005" even though it's the 5th.

There's no work-around that I've discovered (except making sure to quit Word every night), and worse still, it's not always consistently a problem (but it happens enough that I've become sensitive to it). So just be careful using auto-complete for the date (you might consider turning it off) because you may mis-date an important letter.
