Make Expander and DropStuff launch faster Apps
Ever since I updated to StuffIt 9, it took longer to start up than did the previous version. So I finally looked into the preferences. There I found and unchecked the Preferences -> Version Check tab -> Allow verson check box. I did this in the Expander as well as in DropStuff. Both now start up in about half the time.

Before this Stuffit used to look for updates on start up, which can take a while.
This should also work in older versions of StuffIt.

I tested this and can confirm that it works in version 8.0.2.

This is actually a bug. It seems they made a mistake and did not type the URL of their server correctly, at least in the release I have, so it would take 2 or 3 minutes to launch. My wife thought it was a dancing icon show.

Yah, I stop version checking in all my apps because of the annoyance. but then again, I check VersionTracker.com, Macupdate.com and http://osx.hyperjeff.net/Apps/ pretty much everyday...

Excellent, I can finally use Stuffit again without getting bored to death just watching it open. I was really confused about this problem since it was much worse when I am at home compared to at school. The reason, I think, is that at home I use dial-up, so I'm almost never online, where at school we have a high-speed LAN connection, and I have a wireless router, so I'm always online. I tested it here with and without network and both are much faster.

Thanks for the great tip!
