Simply create a playlist with no songs in it, and switch the Source pop-up on the bottom to that list, and it will refresh with a blank list. After the current song is done playing, it will stop.

My roommate came up with a clever way to force iTunes to stop playing after the current song when using the Party Shuffle.
Simply create a playlist with no songs in it, and switch the Source pop-up on the bottom to that list, and it will refresh with a blank list. After the current song is done playing, it will stop.

Stop playing iTunes after current Party Shuffle song
don't understand. Whats a source pop-up? Do you need to go into iTunes once the song has started in order to get it to stop at the end? In which case, simply click out of whichever window your currently playing from (in this case, party shuffle) and click on another song, perhaps in your library or playlist. Play will stop end at end of song. It would be cool if you could use this as a way of telling iTunes what song to play next!

Umm... no, play doesn't stop with Party Shuffle just because you clicked another song in the library: I just confirmed that here. The original hint, however, works, and is a decent solution to the question posed.
Since you state you "don't understand" the hint: in iTunes, click on "Party Shuffle" at the left, and then notice the "source pop-up" at the bottom of the window. That is were you would switch from whatever current playlist is selected to the empty playlist. HTH.

My apologies. This indeed does not work on playlists!
Awesome solution
I can't tell you how often I've wanted an option to stop playing after the current song is done. I usually use Nicecast stream my music to my friends while I'm at work and sometimes I have listeners when I'm ready to go home. This trick will work great to automatically stop the song. :) In the past I've just clicked on the iTunes volume slider and done a fade out, which is something I wish they'd automate... fade-out and stop.
AppleScript to do the same thing
Good idea! Here's another solution which might be slightly more flexible. Use this AppleScript called Play One Track Only:
Stop playing iTunes after current Party Shuffle song
An easier way to do this is to just command-click the check box next to any of the tracks in the current source. This will deselect them all. After the current track is done playing, iTunes will stop because there are no checked tracks to go to. ---

The AppleScript This Is The Last Song stops iTunes after the current track finishes playing.
