Fix a corrupt Gmail POP account in Mail

I recently had to figure this out the hard way. If Mail.app is no longer able to connect to pop.gmail.com to download your emails, the problem might be a corrupt Mail.app account. All you have to do to fix it is trash the old account in preferences, and recreate it. Before you do that, though, create a new folder on your Mac in Mail, and copy all your old gmail messages to that folder to avoid losing said messages. Then you can enjoy the POP access of gmail once again.
