Set Firefox to automatically mount disk images Web Browsers
I recently decided to give Firefox a try, and have been liking it. The only problem I had was its handling of disk images. I thought Firefox was limited to saving images to the hard drive, and then manually opening them (which takes at least two or three seconds). Anyways, setting the pop-up dialog to open with Disk Utility didn't help. Poking around, I found that the mounting of disk images is done by a program named DiskImageMounter.app, which is found in /System -> Library -> CoreServices.

Selecting that as the "Open with" application in Firefox made the disk images automatically mount, and I assume it will also correctly handle the internet-enabled disk images, though I didn't test them.

Set Firefox to automatically mount disk images

My option to "Open with..." is grayed out on my FireFox. Is there something else that could be interfering with my options? Preferences does not seem to have the ability to add open options for new file types.

I have the same problem - my option to "Open with ..." is greyed out and inaccessible. What can we do?

Wasn't disabling this the whole point of a raft of security fixes last year (to Safari, at least)? See for example this article.

From what I understand, this was fixed with the Security Update 2004-06-07, the one that brought up a dialog box when a document tries to open an application for the first time.

I don't know about you, but I have three download options: 1) Open with..., 2) Open with default MacPPC application, and 3) Save to disk... The second one always works fine for me for .dmg's, but checking the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" does absolutely nothing. I still get the dialog every time. Frustrating. If you don't have the other (default MacPPC app) option, and the default action checkbox, perhaps they came from a Download Manager tweak extension I installed. Don't remember. Now if I could just get my preference to stick...
