A workaround for Safari and the Xanga weblog service Web Browsers
My daughter has a weblog on Xanga that recently stopped showing her updates when she used Safari or Firefox (on my iBook and on Windows). When she visits her site she is unable to see any recent changes, which makes it look like a caching issue.

Internet Explorer works fine with Xanga (it is a .net site...) on the Mac and Windows, but we do not like using IE for many reasons. Xanga's help site suggests that the problem is a local cache issue, but after disabling the local cache using some hints from this site, it still behaved the same way. I also tried the site in OmniWeb (which did not have a cache of the site), and it had the same problem.

To fix it, I enabled the Debug menu in Safari, set the user-agent to "Windows MSIE 6.0," and it worked! I have sent Xanga an email explaining that it is not a local cache problem, and asking them to fix their site. Oddly, I have not heard back.

This is an old solution (there have been numerous hints that address this type of issue), but I was unable to find any mention of Xanga and Safari/Firefox problems, so maybe some others will find it useful.

Hm, I use Xanga with both Safari and Firefox without any problems. Make sure you don't have any extra code on your page from spyware or adware. You should use the safe mode to login and search your html for anything that might be corrupting the page. Also, if you're on premium and you have any fancy skins or other advanced settings, you might want to try testing with those off. Good luck, if I can help in any way, drop me a comment on my Xanga.

I recommend blogger as an alternative, it provides great functionality and is unbiased to the end users choice of web interface.

Different appearance with MSIE

I haven't had any problems with Xanga, but I decided to try this hint anyway, and with MSIE as the user agent, the text was smaller (still readable, command-+ to make it bigger), and the banner ad was at the bottom instead of the top (which was nice... but it seems unfair). I wonder why Xanga 'likes' MSIE better...

I've had my xanga since Februrary and haven't had any problems with it since. What I do notice with Firefox though, is that you can use the HTML editor like Windows users when you enter a new post.

. . all the Mozilla-based browsers allow HTML mode in Blogger. Hoping Safari is not far behind.
