I recently had an iMovie project refuse to open, with iMovie complaining that the folder was locked, or that I didn't have write access to it. It wasn't, and I did, so this left me without my project for a few days.
What finally worked was making a new project folder with the same name as the old (I renamed the old folder first), and a new media folder inside of that. Then I moved the old project file and media files to those new folders. The same project opened fine in the new folder. I still don't know what was wrong with the old folder, but I haven't had trouble with my new setup.
