Print from Windows XP to Mac-connected USB printers

I found the solution today on how to print from a Windows XP to the USB printers (Canon s900 and Epson cx3200) connected to my OS X 10.3.6 Mac. I have tried all the recomendations from this site, and it was a hybrid between adding a local printer and connecting to a printer on the internet. Here are the details...
- First add a printer
- Add a network printer
- Select "Connect to printer on the internet or intranet, etc."
- Here is what my configuration is: http://192.165.1.65:631/printers/s900
- Click Next and select the AppleLW12/660PS (you just need a Postscript printer here)
- Finish set up.
But with this setup, when I printed to the s900, I got an error and could never get anything to print. The solution:
- Delete the printer (icon) from the fax/print window that you just set up. You will not need it, because you are going to set up a new one.
- Add printer again
- This time select Local Printer attached to Computer
- Don't add a new port. Instead, select one from the list. The 192.165.1.65:631 addrss that I set up earlier now appears in the port list
- Select this port and click Next
- Choose the Laserwriter 12/660PS again (any Postscript printer)
- Replace driver and click Next.
- Name the printer. The name will default to the one you chose earlier. This will be the name that will show up when your print dialogue box is displayed
- Finish setup
Now when you look at the fax/print window, your printer icon shows "Ready," and you should be able to print. I was able to get to get mine to print before using this method, but every time I restarted my Mac or my PCs, the PCs could not find the printers.
Now here is the strange part (I dont know Windows very well, so maybe someone can explain this). After you restart the PC, the printer icons in the fax/print window are now grayed out and display "off-line." However, the printing still works and the name you gave the printer earlier shows up in the print dialog window. Again, I have two USB printers hooked up to my Mac, and this has been working so far (even after multiple restarts on all machines). Hope this helps some of you.
[robg adds: We've run multiple hints on getting Mac-connected printers working with windows (1, 2, 3), and there's a good discussion on the forum site. Each has slightly different advice, but hopefully one of them will provide enough info to help with your specific setup issues.]
