Display slideshows in OpenOffice Apps
I use Keynote to prepare most of my presentations, but I do use PowerPoint and OpenOffice.org from time to time. One thing that frustrated me about OpenOffice.org is that I could never seem to get the slideshow mode running right. Invariably, the slideshow would display, but I would have either the menubar or items from the desktop running alongside the presentation. Here is a real simple way to fix that.

Since OpenOffice.org is an X11 app, by running X11 in full screen mode, you can display the OpenOffice.org slideshow without any funny screen issues. You can set full screen mode via the X11 Preferences screen. Then you can use Command-Option-A to toggle between the X11 and Mac OS X desktops.

Alternatively, you could just use NeoOffice/J instead which is a native port of OpenOffice.org to MacOS X that removes the X11 dependency and provides for a better user experience, including slideshows that automatically go fullscreen.

Wow, NeoOffice/J is great! I had never heard about it before, but I just downloaded it and it is so much better than having to use the X11 OpenOffice version. Thanks!
