I had some trouble getting my new Epson R200 to print directly onto printable CDs and DVDs from OS X this past weekend. So I called Epson support to get the scoop, and wanted to share what I learned, because the info in the manual doesn't include all the details needed to get things to work. The good news is, once you enter the correct settings, it works easily and flawlessly, and the CDs and DVDs you can produce look really nice! Here are the steps to follow:
- Build the image you want to print on the disc in the Epson Print CD program.
- From within this app, go to File -> Page Setup, and set the following options:
- Format For: Epson Stylus R200 (Borderless Sheet Feeder)
- Paper Size: A4
- Go to File -> Print, and set these options:
- Printer: Stylus Photo R200
- In the drop-down menu below Presets:
- Choose Print Settings
- Set Media Type to CD/DVD
- Set Mode to Automatic (make sure under the Advanced settings that all of the following are un-checked (not selected): Super MicroWeave (should be off), High Speed (should be off), Mirror image (should be off)
The A4 paper size threw me, as I live in the US and am not likely to ever feed A4 paper into this printer. But that's what the Epson tech told me to use, and it worked. I have not fiddled with it to see if other settings will work. It may be that with the other settings, this one ends up being ignored (not sure). With these settings, and following the instructions in the manual about carefully lining up the arrows on the disc feeder tray, the printer works very well, and produces very nice looking discs with minimal time/work/effort.
