Create a smart playlist to track today's additions Apps
I just wanted to share this little discovery -- you can make a smart playlist of songs added "today," where "today" is constantly updated to be the current day. First create a new smart playlist and change 'Match the following condition' to 'Date Added.' Automatically, the date will be set to the current date. However, you can instead type in today in the date field, instead of an actual date. Make sure that 'Live updating' is checked, and now you can easily see exactly what you added today.

I know people have probably figured that one out already, but just incase you didn't think of it...

[robg adds: You can also do something similar by setting it to "date added is in the last one days, but "today" probably means just today, instead of the last 24 hours. I don't add music often enough to make use of such a list, though, so I can't really test this one.]

Auto update from a folder look up
Authored by: cwachs on Nov 30, '04 11:09:50AM

I'm after an auto updating cmart playlist that will add songs that are placed in a folder on my hard drive. I run a copy of iTunes on a G4 that is just hooked up to my stereo. I manage my MP3's from my laptop (rip them, change tags, add cover art, etc) and then copy them to the G4 hard drive. I currently have to TimBukTu into the machine and drag those new songs to the iTunes window. Is there a way to have a smart playlist scan a folder or drive for new mp3 or aac files?

There isn't a way to have iTunes do this, but you can do it with a folder script. http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/itinfo/folderaction01.php descripbes the process and has a script to download.

this didn't work for me. I typed "today" into the "Date Added" rule for a smart playlist, but when I type the tab key or click OK, it beeps and the value gets changed to today's date.

however, I just set the rule the following and it seems to do the correct thing:

Date Added : Is in the last : 0 days

It seems that iTunes 4.7 removed the "today" hint

What's happening to this site...?

It's becoming full of trash. This is just another non-hint: when you type today, iTunes doesn't accept it and put the actual date instead. But you could write "lollapalooza" too, or whatever, and you would obtain the same result. Please RobG, I know what a large work is to maintain this site and I'm very grateful to you, but just a little more control on what you publish...

Fabrizio, you should read my post juste above.
Apple removed the trick in iTunes 4.7.

Next time, don't be ridiculous, learn to read.
