Manage iTunes audio streams with smart playlists Apps
This is a very basic tip on how to match audio streams such as the ones broadcasted with nicecast or shoutcast etc.

Basically, all you have to do is create a smart playlist with kind contains "Stream," and you will have a smart playlist updated with any streaming audio in your library. You can also use this with "does not contain" to do just the opposite if you do not want streams to show up. You can also create lists by genre (talk, comedy, etc) or bitrates to narrow the results even more.

If you would like to take streams from the "Radio" source provided by iTunes, you can use a similar trick by matching kind with "URL," since the streams are basically links to external playlists. You can then drag your favorite streams to your library and they will be added.

To have all the streams that you have added from elsewhere and favorites you have dragged, you can simply combine the two and match either "Stream" or "URL."

Hey neat trick. I should have thought of that... I have smart playlists coming out the wazoo.... but I've been using a regular old playlist for my streams.

It's odd you mention this because I just created and was approved for an FAQ on the iTunes for Mac/Windows Discussion board yesterday morning that says just that. :-)

Downstream is an AppleScript that removes radio station streams from the main library to a selected playlist, allowing you to keep them completely separate from your audio tracks. Good for organization, and eliminates the chance of hitting a stream on a library shuffle.

If you don't want a song played in iTunes then just uncheck its tick and it will be missed out

What I really wish is that iTunes had different library classes or could handle multiple libraries. Like for example a library for audio books, one for streams, one for music. I know there are hacks out there to make it sort of work like that but it would be so nice if apple could make an easy way to move certain tracks into speciality libraries like that.

Also, I love your scripting site and have it on my rss news feeds :)

I just use three different smart playlists. One for everything except streams and audio books, one for just audiobooks/spoken word and one for just streams.

Then just visit those playlists instead of the entire library.

What I would love is a way to get my streams included in the "Party Shuffle". I have all of my music on my server at home, and just included the urls to them in iTunes. I would love to be able to use the weighted random of the "Party Shuffle"
