How to make Firefox look a bit more Mac-like Web Browsers
I found this site, which contains Firefox themes which match the OS X themes avaialble from Max Rudberg etc. Ignore the stuff at the top, and scroll to the bottom of the page to find links to the actual .jar files (in red text).

Copy the link for the theme of your choice to your clipboard, and then go to the Firefox theme install page.

The last step is to paste the link from your clipboard into the "Remote URL" field to install the theme into Firefox. Note: you must do this using Firefox for the install to work! You must also select the theme in the Tools -> Themes dialog to activate it, and then restart to have it take effect.

[robg adds: These themes do look quite nice, however, they are designed for Windows. That means that you'll get a functional but not right looking scrollbar on OS X. I'm presently using a set of themes built by 'arronax07' specifically for OS X; these have nicer looking widgets than the stock Firefox, and feature full scrollbar support...]

Thanx for the hint! I found that the theme called "Brushed SunkenAquaGraphite safari none TBE" works just fine, and looks real nice! (even scroll bars...)

At the risk of inciting numerous flames of indignation, how can I disable tabbed browsing in Firefox?

[Flames of indignation omitted but understood.]

Go to Firefox -> Preferences -> Advanced pane

Click the wedge to open the Tabbed Browsing preferences, and choose your poison.

Thanks, but I tried that. Lots of settings but there is no way to disable tabbed browsing entirely. I prefer to "command"-click a link and have a new window pop up. (On a page with hundreds of links I can quickly pop up a new window and as quickly close it with "command"-W if it isn't what I'm looking for. Then there's no refresh time to "command"-click on the next link.)

Also, anybody figured out how to import bookmarks yet? When I select File > Import... all I get is a dialog with no options.

Thanks.

If you want to import your bookmarks from Safari, just use the debug menu in Safari, and export bookmarks. It will create a .html file with all your bookmarks. I think that IE's bookmarks are already in .html format.

In FireFox, go to the 'customize bookmarks' (or similar, sorry, I have the Swedish version... 'ordna bokmärken') and use 'file', 'import...'

that's it!

Thanks, I was using Import... from the File menu in a browser window. That doesn't do anything at all yet. In the bookmarks manager it does work.

No, this doesn't work. Not in Firefox 1.0 anyway. On opening links with cmd-click, it keeps defaulting to tabs rather than new windows regardless of preference settings. This seems to be a design flaw.

Thanks for the confirmation. A Linux geek I know was trying to convince me I was insane when I told him tabbed browsing couldn't be disabled in the current Firefox... Then again, he thinks we should all go back to the days before GUIs were invented.
