Another solution for Rendezvous printing issues Network
I have a G5 and an iBook shared behind a combo ethernet/802.11g router. My ISP is Earthlink. The G5 is linked via USB to the printer. For reasons I cannot explain, my G5 (shared as "Durandal") thought that the bogus address durandal.earthlink.net was its proper address to send to other devices for the purposes of Rendezvous printing. Needless to say, the iBook was confused when it tried to print via the network.

I discovered this hint regarding a similar issue. Unfortunately, I'd never changed my host name so it didn't help. On a lark, I decided to to edit /etc/hostconfig and changed:
HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-
to
HOSTNAME=local
After a reboot, the G5 correctly identified itself across the network and printing worked just fine.

For people getting bogus hostnames from their DHCP server (Windows 2000 has done this) which will cause similar printing issues for Mac OS X users, this hint will help out as well:
