Frustrated by the Recent Items function in the Finder, when an image batch job scrolls all the good stuff off the list, I built one more to my taste using a perl program running under cron. You create a Current Projects folder and place it in the Finder's Sidebar. The keepcurrent script will then make links to changing items that occur in a list of parent directories of your choice.

More details and the script are available at my web site.
