Modify QuickTime controller's video and audio playback

I love movie trailers, but I also enjoy watching them scene-by-scene in trailers that contain fast/short sequences, such as the trailer to the upcoming Keanu Reeves film Constantine.

No longer do you have to keep rewinding to see these scenes; you can watch them in slow motion (or fast motion; whichever you prefer). To use this hidden trick (which I found with a slip of my pinky finger one afternoon), simply hold down the Control key while pressing the rewind or fast forward arrows on the QuickTime control strip in your favorite browser. You should then see a new slider (if you continue to hold down the arrows), as seen at left.

If you don't hold the arrows down, it will default to moving one level forward or backward (depending on which arrow you click first). The pitch of trailer's soundtrack also adjusts to the speed, too.

I'm sure many of you already know this, but you can also double the playback volume by holding down the Shift key while clicking on the volume button in the QuickTime controller, as seen at right. This is a nice feature for larger-than-normal audiences when showing off new cool trailers.

[robg adds: These two tricks only work in the browser-embedded QuickTime controller, not in the Finder's QuickTime preview player, nor in the normal QuickTime Player.]
