Pairing Jabra BT200 headsets with OS X

A search on Google and apple.com support boards reveals that I'm not alone in my frustration with getting my BT200 to work with my Mac. The problem is that when you get the headset to pair, you can only get it to connect for a second ... and this was with my cheap TRENDnet Bluetooth adapter. A quick read of Apple's documentation makes it clear that the only Bluetooth dongle worth buying at all is the D-Link DBT-120 (rev B2 or later; mine is the B4) -- only the latest D-Link adapters (and internal Bluetooth) work with Bluetooth headsets. And then, only after upgrading the firmware.

OK. At this point I've upgraded the firmware on the D-Link adapter but the problem remains. I can pair my Jabra BT200 but can only connect for a second or two. What's the deal? Apparently the Jabra BT200 has two pairing modes. The first is when you hold down the handset shaped button till the light shines solid for a few seconds.

The other mode is the enhanced mode. This is the pairing method most of us have learned as it is how we pair it with our mobile phones. With this method you hold down, in tandem, the headset and up buttons till the light shines solid for a few seconds. But Apple doesn't like these enhancements apparently. Make sure you pair the headset using just the headset button to make the Jabra BT200 discoverable. It really sucks that neither Jabra or Apple have provided this information; there are scores of users wondering what the heck is going on. Thank Woz macOSXhints is around, eh?
