Mini-howto on connecting to the internet using a Sony Ericsson T637 with AT&T service. This uses GPRS, not a normal dialup account -- if you have a data transfer limit, watch your usage!
Read the rest of the hint for the steps...
- Pair the phone and your computer
- Open Bluetooth Serial Utility (/Applications -> Utilities -> Bluetooth Serial Utility.app)
- Click 'New'
- Enter the name 'Phone'
- Select 'outgoing'
- Open 'select device', choose your phone's name on the left and 'Dialup Networking' on the right
- Click 'select'
- Make sure 'Port Type' is set to Modem, and none of the checkboxes are selected
- Quit Bluetooth Serial Utility
- Open System Preferences
- Open the Network pane
- A dialog should say that a new port was detected; click ok
- Drop down the 'Show' list, select 'Phone'
- As the telephone number, enter '*99***2#'
- Click on 'PPP Options'
- Deselect 'Send PPP Echo Packets'
- Deselect 'Use TCP Header Compression'
- Click 'OK'
- Go to the 'Modems' tab
- Deselect the two checkboxes
- Make sure Dialing is set to Tone
- Select 'Ericsson Infrared' for the Modem dropdown.
- Select 'Show modem status in menu bar'
- Select 'Apply Now'
- Exit from System Prefs
- On the phone, go to the 'Connect' item in the main menu
- Go to Data Comm -> Data Accounts -> AWS Data -> Edit -> APN
- Enter 'proxy', then exit out of all the menus.
- Click on the modem icon on the menu bar (make sure 'Phone' is selected as opposed to 'Internal Modem') and click Connect.
You should now be connected to the net via GPRS.
