Have you had the problem where a Windows shared printer couldn't be seen in the Windows Printing list? After much research and trial and error, I finally managed to successfully print from OS X 10.3.5 to such a Windows shared printer:
-
Turn on Print Services for UNIX on the Windows box (more info)
- On the Mac, in Printer Setup, add a printer
- Choose IP printing, and LPD/LPR
- Type your Windows server name in Printer Address
- Type your Windows shared printer name in Queue Name
- Choose the appropriate printer. If your printer is not Postscript enabled, use one of the GIMP print drivers. Go to their site to look up which driver is appropriate. You might want to try different drivers here if yours is not one of the officially supported ones. I was printing to a Lexmark OptraE, and had success using a random Optra-GIMP driver, as well as the standard HP LaserJet 4 GIMP driver.
This worked for me, but really should have been a *lot* easier. Maybe somebody can now work out why those shared printers don't show up when you choose Windows Printing.
