Speed deletion of iiTunes duplicates while importing Apps
Sometimes I convert songs from CD which are already in my library, but at a different quality. Since the update mechanism doesn't work on songs which I haven't converted from CD the first time, all this songs wind up in my library twice. So, after setting the rating, I'd like to delete the old song -- but deleting while importing causes the deletion process to take exactly as long as the importing of the track, regardless of the length of the track to import or the number of songs to delete. Nice bug, Apple!

The solution: While deleting, simply change the focus from iTunes to another application, or, even better, just press Command-Tab once. The delete will be finished within a few seconds, and you can return to iTunes with Command-Tab and then Shift-Command-Tab (or Command-`).

Hope that helps.

FYI: This article has an AppleScript that you can fire automatically when a CD is inserted. It will check if the tracks on the CD are already in your iTunes library and un-check them.

Why do you want to delete while importing? I do everything in one sound quality (the way I like it) and I make sure that I un-check everything already imported. Simple as that.

Why must you try me?

Well, in a perfect world, you wouldn't have to import things a second time. But since I started converting my CDs a long time ago, when MP3 encoders weren't as good as they are now, some of my songs have a terrible quality. Even worse, some are simply buggy: they were encoded with VBR, but obviously wrong, since iTunes and iPod don't see that: the time is wrong, the song just stops in the middle.
And while importing a second time, I want to move my ratings to the new song and delete the old one. That's when I encountered this bug.

I'm not sure I am familiar with iiTunes. Must be some sort of 2nd generation music player?
